Add a free daily crossword to your website

Paste one line of code and your site gets a playable crossword that refreshes itself every day. It is free, it shows no ads, and it works anywhere you can add HTML.

How it works

The embed is a standard iframe. Copy a code block below and paste it into your page wherever you want the crossword to appear. Every day at midnight UTC, the puzzle inside changes to the new one automatically. You never need to update anything.

Visitors play right on your page. Their progress is saved in their own browser, and nobody needs an account.

Embed code

Today's three crosswords (updates daily)

<iframe src="https://chaosword.com/embed" width="100%" height="700" style="border:none;border-radius:8px;max-width:100%;" title="Chaosword Daily Crossword" loading="lazy" allow="clipboard-write"></iframe>

Just the 5x5 mini (updates daily)

<iframe src="https://chaosword.com/embed?edition=1" width="100%" height="700" style="border:none;border-radius:8px;max-width:100%;" title="Chaosword Daily Crossword" loading="lazy" allow="clipboard-write"></iframe>

Choose what to show

You can embed all three of today’s editions or only one. To show a single edition, add ?edition=1 for the 5x5, ?edition=2 for the 7x7, or ?edition=3 for the 11x11 to the address in the code. To pin a specific day instead of today, use /embed/2026-10-01 with the date you want.

Adding it to common platforms

The code works anywhere that accepts raw HTML:

  • WordPress: add a Custom HTML block and paste the code.
  • Squarespace: add a Code block and paste the code.
  • Wix: use the Embed HTML element and paste the code.
  • Ghost: add an HTML card and paste the code.
  • Plain HTML sites: paste it into the page where the puzzle should go.

Sizing and mobile

The code sets the width to 100 percent of its container and the height to 700 pixels, which fits all three grid sizes. The puzzle adapts to narrow screens, so it works on phones. If your layout is tight, a height between 600 and 800 pixels usually looks right.

What it is and is not

The embed shows the same daily Chaosword puzzles everyone else plays. You cannot create custom puzzles or change the clues, and there are no branding or analytics controls. In return it is free, needs no account, and never shows ads to your readers. Please keep the Chaosword name visible in the frame.

Where a daily crossword fits

A puzzle gives readers a reason to come back every day. Site owners add one to places like these:

  • A community or club website that wants a daily habit for members.
  • A blog or newsletter archive page, as a break between articles.
  • A school, library, or senior center page with daily activities.
  • An office intranet or team wiki for a shared morning puzzle.
  • A local news site that does not run its own crossword.

Privacy for your readers

The embed shows no ads and asks for no personal details. It stores a random player ID in a cookie so a reader’s progress survives a page reload, and it counts visits with Google Analytics, as described in the Chaosword privacy policy. If your site needs a cookie notice, mention the embed alongside your other third party content.
