Chaosword stores a random player ID in a browser cookie so we can count unique visits and record one completion per person per day across the Morning (5x5), Evening (7x7), and Midnight (11x11) editions. This identifier is not tied to your name or email until you choose to sign in.

If you sign in, we additionally store your email address, a hashed magic-link token, and the crossword progress and solve history you ask us to sync. We never store passwords.

Magic-link sign-in emails are sent through Resend. We do not sell your address, share it with advertisers, or use it for anything other than delivering the sign-in link you requested.

We use Google Analytics to measure page views and traffic sources so we know which puzzles people play. Google sets its own cookies and receives your IP address and browser details as part of this. We do not run ad networks, and we do not sell or share this data. Counts of visits and completions are also kept in our own database.

Completions on the public daily board show the nickname you chose, or "Anonymous" if you did not provide one. Nicknames are sanitized and visible to all visitors. Clean solves with no reveals qualify for the ranked board. You can leave the board empty by not submitting a name.

Your puzzle progress and session are tied to the cookie on your device and, if signed in, to your email. You can permanently delete your account and all associated data at any time from your profile page. Permanent deletion wipes your email, solve history, in-progress grids, and leaderboard entries immediately.

Guest players can reset their device progress by clearing browser cookies. You may also email us to request deletion.
